Comments(2) Just wanted to mention that in my latest redesign of mine an my friend’s site that I’ve used modified themes from Stephen Reinhardt. These Wordpress themes are easy to use and not hard to modify. The simplicity is appreciated.
And another mention goes to Albert Banks for the Netflix plugin. I wish that it could display an image and the movie title at the same time, but beggars can’t be choosers.

It all started wiith the server migrateion from where I host with Powweb. The were performing a server migration that seemed to work flawlessly for everyone but me. Seems the making sure database connectivity with Wordpress is a fairly imporant thing to do.
In regards to other projects, I think that I’ve finally successfully migrated my friend’s blog, the 10,000 things to Wordpress. The most difficult part was trying to implement his podcast with a plug-in called Podpress. It’s a very slick little plug-in that allows you to post your podcast, but it took a little bit more work on the back end than I expected. I’ll probably work up a step by step on how that wne soon since I learned a lot that might help others.
Other than that, I’ve been tinkering with MediaWiki for possible use with managing work documentation, but it seems that BackPackit and Basecamp are certainly doing the trick. (thanks John).
Whew. Now if I can just get my CSS layout together for my sister’s site, EventsByJenn.com I will feel very accomplished.

As from previous posts you might have deduced that m||3 and I like our birds and therefore our birdfeeders. Anyone else who shares an interest in the same would know that there is a tacit war between feeding your birds and accommodating the freeloading mammals known as squirrels.
Long before I was even interested in birdfeeders, I remember a Discovery channel special that illustrated just how smart squirrels were at being able to negotiate just about any obstacle course in the pursuit of food. (Note: I would love to see this again, so if anyone knows what I’m talking about, please post a comment).
Anyway, m||3 and I registered for the Yankee Flipper birdfeeder as a wedding present and Benthic & Co. were generous enough to provide it for us. We’ve had it up for months and haven’t seen it in action. The other morning over coffee we were delighted to find that some new squirrel fell into our trap enough times for me to pull out the video camera to document our victory over the mooching rodents. Enjoy!

Although winter has disallowed us from often enjoying our back porch, some recent warm weather allowed M||3 and I to fill the feeders a take in some of the local wildlife we like to consider our pets. Much to our surprise, the one day the temperature was good for the back porch, we spotted yet another new kind of bird, the Cedar Waxwing, which is pictured here at the right. There was a flock of about a half dozen munching on berries from our Holly bush.
I started paying attention to the avian wildlife when I originally lived here with my sister. When M||3 and I bought the house, I was worried since it had be some years since any feed had been in the sole feeder out back. Amazingly, they were back a day or so after we filled it and we’ve been adding feeders in our backyard to a total of five. When it is warm, we have wonderful evenings winding down after work and watching the voracious little creatures. All of them have their own personality, so we would nickname them with titles like “fat boy”, “whacky”, and “party guys” until we actually got a book to help determine who we were looking at.
After seeing the Cedar Waxwing, it occurred to me that we hadn’t really compiled a complete list of the birds we’ve seen. To our amazement, the tally has come up to 28 species, plus probably some more that we’ve been unable to identify.

Comments(0) I was clicking through del.icio.us the other day and found this really cool effect that is being dubbed Lightbox JS. I was really impressed in that it allowed you to view images without navigating away from the page. With a little more searching on del.icio.us I found that some generous soul has already made a Wordpress plug-in for it. If you’d like to give it a whirl, click on the image of the statue in the post below. I like the benefit of being able to view a detail without having to navigate away from the page. Not only that, but it provides a “loading” graphic that allows viewers to know that something is happening while the image loads. Cool thing that is used with Flash all the time.
I’m dubious, however, that this can possibly work in many browsers across the board. Ajax seems to insert itself without much issue since its just Javascript, which has been functional in browsers since I installed a browser, but the use of .png graphic files and the CSS that is used to implement it makes me wonder. Still, what’s a cool web thing if you’re threatened by a little thing like browser compatibility?

It was Thursday morning that M||3 and I looked at each other from across our breakfast table asking “are you ready?”. Not that catching a plane to Mexico was such a big deal, but it had been a long time since we had gone anywhere, much less left the country. I must admit I was a little on edge and drawing from previous international travel advice plus Google for the know-how about heading to Mexico. It has been a long time since I had wielded my passport, and I wasn’t very sure about how things would go. We rolled out early morning to the airport and caught the plane without much issue besides long lines. Fear of flying aside, the ride was smooth and quick and before too long I was trying to decipher the landscape of Cancun. I was amazed how the landscape was so level with vegetation, and thankful that the plane was finally landing.

Same goes for the WordPress upgrade to 2.0. I found the other day that they had released their final candidate for 2.0 and tonight I took the plunge. So far haven’t been having any problems other than what seems to be Powweb’s mySQL issues, and the plug-ins I use haven’t crapped out on me either. So far a painless upgrade, but the devil is in the details and we’ll see if any strange issues crop up.
Hope not since I have to get some info up about M||3’s and my honeymoon in Playa del Carmen. For the time being, you can check out the video of one of the most spectacular dives that I’ve ever been on. Full details on our travels soon.

I caught most of this recording on NPR as I left work today. I didn’t exactly know what they were talking about until the story unfolded and I have seldom been so moved. As soon as I got home, m||3 and I discussed at length the power of the story. The premise is that someone who managed to retain their mind after receiving a lobotomy researches why he and others would receive such a procedure. One of the things that m||3 and I concluded is that this is why radio is such a still powerful tool in light of all the new technologies out there. It provides a voice, a glimpse, that other mediums may not be able to capture. I’ve been a fan of radio and the spoken word for a long time now, and the reason for why I feel it to still be a powerful medium has never been so captured by this recording. After asking M||3 to be my wife on Christmas Eve of 2004, the culmination of planning came to fruition on this past October 15 with our wedding on St. Simons Island. Much in thanks to all the people that helped us to get everything organized, the whole weekend couldn’t have been more perfect. The ceremony was held on the grounds behind the D. Abbot Turner Lodge overlooking the marsh. On the morning of the ceremony, I stopped by the site to drop off some things needed for the reception held immediately afterward. I paused and was in awe how perfect everything was. Perfect temperature and just enough wind to deny too many insects from joining the ceremony. I had to call M||3 and leave a message on her cell to let her know how beautiful everything was, even though I knew she was busy with pre-wedding preparations.There are things that one will never come to understand unless you go thought the process of getting married. Invitations, reservations, cakes, dresses, alterations, favors, etiquette, flowers, musicians… the list goes on and on. Even though we tried to keep it a small gathering, things will get away from you, but don’t worry, because it is all so worth it. Although we were both exhausted and beat a hasty retreat for some rest and relaxation in Savannah, we both reminisced for days on how happy we were with how it all went.

M||3 and I are in full Fatality mode with our occasional PS2 game obsession. We gamed for hours today, but we managed to escape the house with our temporary visitor Lily for a walk around the neighborhood. The game is great, but being reminded about what bugs me about some games when you’re just trying desperately to hold onto health only to get decimated and set back to redo insanely frustrating jumps and such. Still, the KO-OP mode is rocking so that we can express our love in combined “Brutality”.
